Got a Tip?

David S. Goyer Calls ‘Man Of Steel’ The Right Super Hero Movie For Our Times

nullThe reboot has firmly turned into producer David S. Goyer's affinity as of late. Many of his projects since “Batman Begins” have encompassed a renewal of some sort. With his legacy with Christopher Nolan's trilogy now closed for outside reflection, the focus now falls on his work with another director and comic book property, and he's feeling pretty optimistic about the project.

While at the Television Critics Association promoting “Da Vinci's Demons” — which revises (we weren't kidding) the artist's life as sleazy, swashbuckling legend — Goyer took a brief moment to speak about Zack Snyder's moody Superman entry, “Man of Steel.” Claiming he's “really proud” of the final result, he also noted his unlikely part in the franchise, even after “The Dark Knight” trilogy. “I never thought I would be doing a Superman film,” he said, “But I think the only way to top myself, or ourselves on Batman, is to tackle Superman – who's kind of the Granddaddy of all the Superheroes.”

With Henry Cavill on board as the tortured protagonist, Goyer also claimed they found a tougher challenge with the Kryptonian, saying, “It's kind of easier doing a dark character who doesn't have any superpowers.” However, he also added that the film remains the perfect solution for the year ahead. “I mean, I'm happy that the movie is coming out this summer, because I think it's the kind of movie that the world needs right now. He's an unabashed hero.”

Aside from Pa Kent (Kevin Costner) and his moral perspectives on water-bound school buses, we'll see if Goyer's heroic prediction holds true when “Man of Steel” opens June 14th. Watch the full interview clip below.
