Having wrapped earlier, it was pretty much guaranteed that David O. Russell’s “The Fighter” was going to be prepped for an awards season release. Back in May, Mark Wahlberg revealed the film was going to be released in December, and now a firm date of December 10, 2010 has been confirmed for the Paramount Pictures film.
It’s a smart release date as it’s currently the only film scheduled to open against “The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader” and it will be a good counter-programming choice for audiences looking for something different. More importantly, it gives the film some breathing room against the crowded late-December Oscar-contending releases of the Coen Brothers’ “True Grit,” Sofia Coppola’s “Somewhere,” Mike Leigh’s “Another Year” and Derek Cianfrance’s “Blue Valentine” which will all open in the last two weeks of the year.
To refresh your memory, “The Fighter” stars Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, Melissa Leo and Amy Adams in the true story of boxer ‘Irish’ Mickey Ward and his half-brother Dickie Ecklund.
Isn't Black Swan supposed to open on the same day?
Fairly ironic.
