In what should be no surprise to anyone paying attention in the last few weeks, David Fincher’s Aaron Sorkin-scribed “The Social Network,” better known as the Facebook movie, has evidently been given the official greenlight by Columbia Pictures.
Based on Ben Mezrich’s novel “The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding Of Facbeook. A Tale Of Sex, Money, Genius And Betrayal,” the film will chronicle the formation and development of Facebook and has been given the go-ahead to begin production as early as October with a $47 million dollar budget.
Casting is currently taking place for the picture and has been for sometime now – auditions were already being accepted as of early August and the film went full steam ahead after Fincher dropped his fee to speed up development. Early rumors had Michael Cera and Shia Labeouf at the top of the producer’s list to lead “The Social Network.”
The film has also reportedly been busy scouting locations for production. Boston and Cambridge are being eyed to depict the journey of Facebook founder and “The Social Network” protagonist Mark Zuckerberg which seemingly unfolds into “Wall Street” style chaos. Expect the trades or someone like EW to confirm this news soon. [End Of Show/Loaded Gun]
And so begins the Mount Everest uphill battle to convince anyone that this idea isn't lame and goofy as shit.
fuck this. fincher is on crack. chris nolan, pta, or aronofsky would never touch this fluffy shit. wow. im honestly miffed.
You two are idiots. Give it up, it's over. No Torso.
Heh, i'm going to have fun watching on the sidelines as the Fincher apostles fret over this one.
its not greenlit yet..and Sony has yet to secure the life rights of the Facebook guy…same as they did on Moneyball/Billy Beene..and look what happend to that movie a week before shooting.
No way will Amy Pascal want to lose another one like that. This movie is definitely happening and I say it probably will happen in October as this seems to be on the super fast track and Fincher is definitely on board.
I've been reading Dana Brunetti's posts on the actual facebook and he's basically confirmed that this is a done deal.
It's happening.
That this is even being done is LOL.
WOW. Dana Brunetti says it so…that MEANS SOMETHING.
Tantrum: "I don't want a David Fincher Facebook movie!!!!"
Look how cool we are anonymously making fun of a movie we haven't watched yet on a message board.
I want to watch this movie and so will all of you.
Dana Brunetti is a producer on this film.
This will be a very interesting movie that will keep me interested from the very beginning..
