Update: EW reports the movie will actually be a sequel.
While the easy response to this news would be to say that David Bowie is rolling over in his grave (actually, he was cremated, so that wouldn’t work), we all know the Great White Duke was never of this Earth, and is probably bringing his otherworldly cool to somewhere else in the cosmos (is it a coincidence that Planet 9 discovered after his death? Just sayin…) At any rate, TriStar and The Jim Henson Co. might’ve respectfully waited a bit longer before dropping this news.

THR reports the two companies are pairing up to reboot the 1986 cult classic “Labyrinth.” While it was a flop when it first released, the movie has become a favorite in the years since, but like any catalog title these days, it’s seen by executives as fair game for a redo. While there’s no word yet on what approach the story might take, perhaps it’s telling of the intentions that Nicole Perlman (“Guardians Of The Galaxy,” “Captain Marvel“) has been hired to pen the script.
So, until more word comes in on the project maybe give “Labyrinth” another spin, and perhaps check out our list of the 8 Essential Movie Performances Of David Bowie.
Nice comment about David Bowie in the ( ). You\’re gross, Kevin.
You should feel ashamed for that comment you made about his cremations. That\’s dispicable. Shame on The Playlist.
Did you really just make that cremation comment? Now THAT is in poor taste.
Yeah…using the fact that someone is trending right now cuz they died as a way to garner excitement for an upcoming product is pretty sleazy. Also, no one wants this. People who are fans of Labyrinth like it because of David Bowie and Jim Henson puppetry…not because those things can be potentially replaced by Justin Timberlake (just a guess) and CGI.
Jim Henson\’s cult classic that Bowie happened to star in, but yeah this is just ugly news given what\’s happened in recent weeks. To essentially parrot what Davey mentioned already, there\’s really no need to do this.
There is no reason to reboot Labyrinth and the timing of the news is cruel. I\’d be thrilled to see another like-minded fantasy film. Even another film set in the same universe would be fine. But not this.
