Got a Tip?

David Ayer In Negotiations To Write & Direct A Modern-Day Remake Of ‘The Dirty Dozen’

David Ayer has proven in the past that he’s more than capable of writing and directing a quality film. I mean, we’re talking about the guy who gave us the script for “Training Day” and directed the underrated “End of Watch.” But when your last two features are “Suicide Squad” and “Bright,” you have to understand that film fans might be a bit skeptical of what you have coming next. And for Ayer, his slate apparently includes a remake of the classic “Dirty Dozen” film, which itself will draw a fair number of naysayers.

According to THR, Ayer is in negotiations to write and direct a remake of “The Dirty Dozen,” with longtime ‘X-Men’ boss Simon Kinberg along to produce. “The Dirty Dozen” will be a remake of the classic 1967 war film that starred a murderer’s row of acting talent such as Ernest Borgnine, Donald Sutherland, Charles Bronson, Jim Brown, John Cassavetes, and Telly Savalas.

And if you’ve seen the film, then you probably understand why Ayer might be an obvious choice for the remake. Of course, that is if a remake must be made. The remake is said to ditch the World War II setting of the original film and focus on a more contemporary story.

As mentioned, the last two films from Ayer, “Suicide Squad” and “Bright,” were not the most well-received projects in his career, at least critically. The former was a box office hit for Warner Bros. and the latter was, apparently, a big enough hit for Netflix to warrant a potential sequel. However, before “The Dirty Dozen,” Ayer has a new film titled “The Tax Collector” that is expected to be released in 2020 and stars Shia LaBeouf. The duo previously collaborated on the film “Fury.”

Obviously, it’s far too early to get a release date for “The Dirty Dozen.”
