David Ayer is no stranger to negative reviews, having weathered the storm of “Suicide Squad.” But I’d imagine he would’ve liked to have to delivered a critical homerun for “Bright,” Netflix‘s first bonafide blockbuster production. The streaming service is already banking on success (which on their terms is more data driven, than derived from opinion) with development on a sequel already underway, but the reviews still provide a hump they need to get over.
‘Bright’ Sequel In The Works At Netflix
Last night, the review embargo lifted on “Bright”and the knives were out. The film is currently standing at 27% on Rotten Tomatoes (just one percentage point above “Suicide Squad”), and our own critic called the humans ‘n orcs cop movie starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton an “ill-conceived hodgepodge of incongruent ideas.” Indiewire was particularly harsh, calling it the absolute worst movies of year, but Ayer has once again bravely taken the bullet. David Ayer has always stood proudly beside his movies, even if he has regrets about “Suicide Squad,” and has a slight delusion that its on the way to cult status. As always, however, it’ll be up to audiences, and Netflix will surely be crunching the numbers this weekend, and watching how many thumbs up or down “Bright” gets as the movie slides into everyone’s holiday binge watching schedule.
Click play on “Bright” starting Friday.
“Ooh, how many scripts you’ve written?”
David Ayer playing Rob Schneider?
If you are attempting to derive sarcasm from his tweet that is damn near impossible to actually do since a huge part of sarcasm is in the tone of voice. You could take it to mean he liked how well written the review was throughout the entire tweet or you could take your interpretation of it.
It may come as a surprise to you but I think you’re right, Mr. Pritchard.
And I must say that I’m a fan of Ayer’s – except for Suicide Squad.
Except its not a delusion, Suicide Squad over performed in theaters and also had RECORD breaking home viseo sales which means a large number of people who saw it liked it enough to buy it in droves…fuck off
1st he does Suicide Squad and then doubles down AGAIN with Smith ? A glutton for punishment.
How many times are the check writers gonna spring for backing these dogs before they actually notice just how many movies Smith has helped ruin ?
