For those not familiar with the current state of hip-hop, there are quite a few rappers coming up that rose through the ranks thanks to social media. One of those folks is Lil Dicky, a young, white rapper that has used his unique brand of humor and his insane skill to become a pretty big star in the music industry. Now, he is taking that humor and skill to FXX for the new series “Dave.”
As seen in the first trailer for “Dave,” the series stars Lil Dicky in a semi-biographical story about a late-20s white rapper trying to make it big in an industry that doesn’t look or act like him. Instead of being cool, filled with swagger and pride, Dave is a, for lack of a better term, dork. He has the skill, for sure, but he’s missing just about everything else that would make him a star in the rap community.
The series stars Dave Burd (aka Lil Dicky), Taylor Misiak, Andrew Santino, GaTa, Travis Bennett, and Christine Ko. The pilot episode was directed by Greg Mottola, who is probably best known for the comedy films “Superbad,” “Adventureland,” and “Paul.”
“Dave” is set to hit FXX on March 4, with each episode arriving on FX on Hulu the following day. You can watch the first trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
FXX’s new series DAVE is centered on a neurotic man in his late twenties who has convinced himself that he’s destined to be one of the best rappers of all time. Now he must convince his closest friends, because with their help, he actually might convince the world. The half-hour comedy is based on the life of rapper and comedian Dave Burd. The series is produced by FX Productions.
