While Lucasfilm was able to give some updates about a range of previously announced “Star Wars” projects at Star Wars Celebration this weekend in London, they’ve now added some new things into the mix as well.
One of the big feature film announcements made this morning included Dave Filoni being set to make his film debut with a new project set in the Mandoverse. This comes after Filoni has been getting his exerpeince tackling live-action projects with “The Mandalorian” and his new series “Ashoka” that will drop on Disney+ in August.
Last fall, it was revealed that filmmaker Shawn Levy (“Stranger Things,” “The Adam Project“) was attached to direct his own “Star Wars” film down the road as he’s about to start shooting Marvel‘s highly anticipated “Deadpool 3” that would see Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman star in a Wolverine/Deadpool crossover that will be the studio’s first attempt to make an R-rated superhero action pic.
Some of the projects announced in the past that really had an update since include series such as the “Lando” that was expected to see Donald Glover (“Atlanta“) reprising his “Solo: A Star Wars” role and “The Mandalorian” spinoff “Rangers of The New Republic” seemingly got paused after Gina Carano‘s exit. There had been a string of films also in development that aren’t expected to cross the finish line such as a Jedi origin project from “Game of Thrones” creators/showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, a “Star Wars: Rogue Squadron” film helmed by Patty Jenkins (“Wonder Woman“) focused on the famed group of X-Wing pilots, director J.D. Dillard (“Devotion“) confirmed his movie wouldn’t be moving forward, and a mystery movie that Marvel‘s Kevin Feige was producing with screenwriter Michael Waldron (“Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness“) attached.
