As we eagerly await Darren Aronofsky‘s new 2017 film, you might have forgotten that the director had an intriguing project developing over at HBO a couple of years back.
Based on the book by Margaret Atwood, “MaddAddam,” the concluding book in the trilogy preceded by “Oryx and Crake” and “Year of the Flood,” would’ve been a reimagining of Earth after a horrific flood in which most of humanity had been destroyed, with various surviving factions competing to enact their own agenda. Aronofsky has already tackled a flood tale with “Noah,” but this would be quite different. Yet it looks like we’ll be waiting a while yet to see it realized, as HBO has let it go.
“ ‘MaddAddam’ is all written. We are working hard on it, and trying to figure it out,” Aronofsky told Vulture. “We are still in play.”
It sounds like “MaddAddam” just needs a new home (hello Netflix?), with the ten-episode series penned by Joss Whedon‘s sister-in-law, playwright Eliza Clark. There’s no word if Aronofsky intends to simply produce or direct some of the episodes himself, but that all likely depends on a number of factors at this point. The main issue right now is finding a venue which would bring “MadAddam” to life.
Actually it’s a figurative “flood”. In the books it’s a virus. *Pushes up glasses*
