Got a Tip?

Darren Aronofsky Circling Biopic Of Daredevil Evel Knievel Starring Channing Tatum

nullSince “Noah” eighteen months ago, a movie that was billed as a misfire by some, but went on to quietely make nearly $400 million worldwide (and is kind of a remarkable movie), Darren Aronofsky’s been fairly quiet. He’s flirted with a few projects, including sci-fi noir Moonfall,” , true-life crime tale The Good Nurse,” and is working towards a potential HBO version of Margaret Atwood’s MaddAddam,”.

But it sounds like he might have made his choice. Variety has confirmed The Tracking Board’s scoop that Aronofsky is in early talks with Sony to direct a biopic of daredevil Evel Knievel, which would star Channing Tatum. Knievel became a cult figure thanks to his well-publicized motorcycle jumps and iconic look, and is in the Guinness Book Of Records for having survived the most broken bones of anyone ever.

Tatum’s been developing this project since 2012, based on Stuart Barker’s book “Life Of Evel”. Tatum’s producing partner/“Magic Mike” writer, Reid Carolin, penned the initial draft of the script along with Scott Silver of "The Fighter". Clearly, “The Wrestler” made Tatum and co think of Aronofsky for this project, and the idea of a Knievel biopic from the mind behind “Black Swan” is a highly intriguing one. Tatum’s only firm commitment coming up is “Gambit,” so we could see this moving forward as soon as next year, should Aronofsky sign on.
