Well, at least somebody is making money around here. The juggernaut that is “The Dark Knight” stands on the cusp of joining the vaunted “Billion Dollar Club,” a trifecta of films that have raked in over a billion dollars at the box office worldwide without adjusting for inflation. To date, the group includes “Titanic,” “The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King” and “Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man’s Chest.” Somewhere in there is a joke about what a doomed ocean liner, orcs, pirates and a man-bat battling a deranged clown have in common…
Anyway, according to
Warner Bros., ‘TDK’ is sitting near the $997 million dollar mark after last weekend, which should mean that it will make the leap into barely charted territory in the next week or so. Additionally, with proceeds totaling somewhere around $528 million, “Knight” is within striking distance of the stratospheric $600 million dollar domestic mark, shattering the record held by “Titanic.” Coupled with a possible
January re-release to theatres, “The Dark Knight” could easily eclipse current box office records. You know, perhaps this movie is to blame for the current economic meltdown–sucking up all disposable income and time.
Finally, if for some reason you’re still hungry for Batman-related news, check out WB’s “For Your Consideration” site
here. Apparently they want all the world’s money
and all of its awards as well. Where’s a superhero (or villain) when you need one?
