Got a Tip?

Dario Argento Says Isabelle Huppert Will Star In His Next Film

Dario Argento is an iconic filmmaker who revolutionized the horror genre in the ‘70s. His run of films from the mid-‘70s through the ‘80s is one of the best ever, with films such as “Deep Red,” “Suspiria,” “Inferno,” and “Tenebrae,” among others. And while his output in recent years hasn’t been nearly as prolific— his recent “Dark Glasses” is the first directorial outing in a decade— that isn’t stopping Argento from putting together really interesting features. And according to the filmmaker, his next film is set to feature one of the best actresses in the world.

Speaking at the Stiges Film Festival (via Twitter), Dario Argento was asked about what he has coming next. Again, “Dark Glasses” is still making festival appearances (and is in theaters in North America now), but Argento doesn’t seem like he’s going to wait another decade for a new film. He teased a new film coming soon that will take place in Paris and will star none other than Isabelle Huppert.

No plot details were given, but the fact that Argento and Huppert are teaming up is enough for film fans across the world to be excited. Huppert is, without a doubt, one of the best actors in film today. In 2017, she was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her work in the film “Elle.” But her award-winning performances span decades with roles in “Violette Nozière,” “The Piano Teacher,” and “8 Women.” She has been nominated 16 times for the prestigious César Awards, winning twice. Needless to say, this is a huge collaboration.

While many would say that Argento’s greatest works are behind him (I mean, can anyone expect you to change an entire genre more than once in a lifetime?), his most recent film, “Dark Glasses,” which premiered at this year’s Berlin Film Festival, has been getting favorable reviews. So, everyone is hoping his “Dracula 3D” days are behind him.
