The new trailer for “Justice League” is here, but I don’t think it has converted those on the fence about the movie to see it or dampened the enthusiasm of anyone who was already on board. For myself, the primary interest is the soundtrack by Danny Elfman. Replacing the previously hired Junkie XL, Eflman is mixing a little bit of the old with a lot of the new in his score, revealing that John Williams’ classic Superman motif will make its way into the mix. However, it appears that’s not all.
Film Music Reporter reveals that Elfman’s memorable “The Batman Theme” from Tim Burton’s “Batman” might also be heard in “Justice League.” It’s a piece that definitely falls in line with honcho Geoff Johns’ vision of hope and optimism for the DC Films brand going forward, and it’s certainly more iconic than whatever Junkie XL and Hans Zimmer came up with for Batman in “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice” (I had to go look it up, and even I could hardly recall that I had listened to it before).
It’s an interesting development at the very least – if “Justice League” is an eyesore at least it’ll be easy on the ears.
The soundtrack is expected to arrive digitally in November, with the CD version landing on December 8th.
Zimmer refused to create a new Batman theme for the DCEU films because he wanted to keep his Dark Knight music separate and didn’t want to be constantly second-guessing whether he was subconsiously quoting it. The Williams Superman theme has been used outside the Salkind productions in which it originated and the Burton Batman theme was reused for The Animated Series, and Burton himself seems willing to mix things up.
