In what is likely another ridiculous decision by the Motion Picture Association of America, the new thriller “Dream House” will still receive an R-rating upon its release. The Hollywood Reporter announced that the movie, which stars Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz has lost the appeal for a lesser rating put forth by Morgan Creek, who produced and financed the project. Never ones to be verbose or clear in their decisions, the Classification and Rating Appeals Board (an arm of the MPAA) simply stated that the rating was based on “some violence” that is featured in the film. Well, that clears it up.
The movie, which has already experienced its fair share of setbacks, is directed by Jim Sheridan (“In America“) and tells the story of a couple (Craig and Weisz) who “move into what appears to be their dream house, but things turn nightmarish when they are haunted by the home’s former inhabitants, who were brutally murdered.” Not the most electrifying concept, but we just hope the script by David Loucka—best known for ancient pics like the Michael Keaton comedy “The Dream Team” and the Whoopi Goldberg basketball movie “Eddie”—has a bit more to it.
Noami Watts and Martin Csokas round out the cast of “Dream House” which hits theaters on September 30th. In the meantime, you can catch up on news about Craig’s “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” which is sounding better and better every day.
The poster says this film stars Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts and Rachel Weisz. Why do you slight Naomi Watts again?
Sounds like they should save it for Jan or Feb 2012 as to not tarnish Daniel Craig\’s stellar year (Cowboys and Aliens, Girl With Dragon Tattoo).
Morgan Creek has a lot more to worry about than a R rating. I have seen an audience screening of this film a couple of months ago and let\’s just say that despite the obvious sparks between Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz that happens on screen, the movie squanders both actors with a script that rips off the sixth sense.
To be fair, they were dealing with a movie that had the temerity to issue an awful poster featuring a giant knob.
Morgan Creek confirm to thewrap that they will re-cut \”Dream House\” to receive PG-13 rating.
