Got a Tip?

Daniel Craig Joins ‘Mustang’ Director Deniz Gamze Erguven’s L.A. Riots Drama ‘Kings’ With Halle Berry

In news that, at this point, should surprise nobody, Daniel Craig has joined another project that doesn’t involve martinis or have a license to kill. The actor continues to carve a career path away from 007, which involves working with topshelf directors like Steven Soderbergh (“Logan Lucky“) and Todd Field (“Purity“).

Craig’s latest choice is signing up for a role in “Kings,” a dream project from “Mustang” director Deniz Gamze Erguven. Set against the 1992 riots which rocked Los Angeles following the acquittal of the police officers implicated in the beating of Rodney King, the movie will see Craig playing one of the few white residents of South Central Los Angeles, who falls in love with a mother (played by Halle Berry), and helps her track down and protect her kids as the city erupts around them.

It sounds promising, and Erguven definitely is riding a wave of momentum. That said, it’s unclear when exactly this would shoot, with Craig set for “Logan Lucky” this fall, and presumably head into “Purity” after that. But should all the financing come together, I’m sure everyone will try and make this smaller project fit into the schedule. [Deadline]
