Got a Tip?

Dane DeHaan Denies Returning As Green Goblin For ‘Spider-Man 3’: “No Truth To Those Rumors”

When you see reports that Marvel Studios and Sony are raiding the casts of previous ‘Spider-Man’ franchises for appearances in the forthcoming “Spider-Man: Far From Home” sequel, it’s not outlandish to think there will be at least one former Green Goblin in the mix. Well, according to Dane DeHaan, his version of the character from “Amazing Spider-Man 2” isn’t going to show up.

Speaking to RadioTimes, DeHaan was asked if the rumors of him making an appearance in “Spider-Man 3” are true. As you might recall, Marvel Studios and Sony have already reportedly signed ‘Spider-Man’ alums Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, and Alfred Molina to appear in the Tom Holland-led sequel that is in production now. Clearly, there are some multiverse shenanigans afoot, which combines the previous trilogies with the new one. But DeHaan wants you to know he’s not involved.

“There’s no truth to those rumors,” DeHaan said. “I don’t even know how that would be pulled off.”

He added, “I would certainly love to make some kind of movie like that again. I like making superhero movies or in that kind of world, and I’m sure I’ll find myself in that world again. And I have no idea what they’re doing with the ‘Spider-Man’ movies now, but I don’t really understand a world in which that would be possible.”

In “Amazing Spider-Man 2,” DeHaan played Harry Osborne, the son of Norman Osborne, the original Green Goblin. And by the end of the film, Harry became Green Goblin and fought Spidey to the death. Obviously, DeHaan doesn’t think Harry will return for ‘Spider-Man 3,’ and it sounds like an outright denial that he’s involved, as opposed to the cheeky “I don’t knowwwww” deflections we normally get from Marvel actors.

Honestly, while DeHaan is a talented actor, his version of Harry Osborne isn’t the most iconic in the series. And if the producers wanted to bring back any version of Green Goblin, you have to assume Willem Dafoe is the first person they’ll call, right?

We’re not going to get any confirmation about any of this ‘Spider-Man’ casting craziness until Marvel Studios releases more information about the sequel. At this point, it could be months from now, especially if Sony ends up delaying the feature even longer. “Spider-Man 3” is currently set for a December 17 release.

Update: even DeHaan has weighed in.
