While Daisy Ridley recently quit Instagram because the internet is a horrible place, in the grand scheme of things it’s no big deal, because she’s got plenty to keep her busy. Of course, there’s “Star Wars,” but the actress of late has been busy finding things to do that don’t involve battling the Dark Side. She’s signed up to star in the fantasy “Kolma,” the wartime tale “The Lost Wife,” and Shakespeare flick “Ophelia.” But she’s not leaving franchise work totally behind.

Variety reports that Ridley is now attached to star in “Chaos Walking.” Based on the first book in Patrick Ness‘ “Chaos Walking” YA series, the story follows Todd Hewitt and Viola Eade, and takes place on an Earth-like planet that humans have colonized. When an infection called The Noise sweeps through that causes everyone to be able hear each other’s thoughts, Todd discovers a space of rare silence, only to find out somehow Viola is able to create the noise-free space, and the two are forced to go on the run.
Sounds like your standard high-concept tweenage thrills, but our interest was piqued earlier this year when it was revealed Doug Liman would be directing from a script by Charlie Kaufman. However, while Liman is still involved, Kaufman’s draft has been given a once-over by Jamie Linden (“We Are Marshall,” “Money Monster“), so consider our enthusiasm slightly dampened.
Cameras will roll next year, and maybe Lionsgate should focus their attention here instead of trying to keep “Divergent” alive.
