Jake Gyllenhaal is one of the rare actors who is able to successfully put one foot in the world of prestige drama films and the other in action, spectacle blockbusters. This is the guy who can wow people in films like “Nightcrawler,” “Nocturnal Animals,” and “Wildlife,” while also showing up as a mustache-twirling supervillain in “Spider-Man: Far From Home.” And it would appear he’s going to keep that trend going with his new film “Cut and Run.”

According to THR, Jake Gyllenhaal has signed on to star in and produce a new heist action film, “Cut and Run.” Here’s the official description of the film:
“A group of thieves using high-powered speedboats to rob superyachts steal the wrong thing from the wrong group of people.”
The film is written by John Glenn. No, not the famous astronaut. We’re talking about the screenwriter. You know, the guy behind films such as “Law Abiding Citizen” and “Eagle Eye.” Glenn has worked a ton in TV, as well, serving as showrunner on series such as “Viola Wells” and “SEAL Team.”

It would appear that Gyllenhaal is all about big-budget action films lately. Not only is he on the cusp of releasing his new Michael Bay-directed film, “Ambulance,” but he’s also signed on for the Netflix film, “The Division,” as well as the upcoming “Roadhouse” remake. So, get ready for lots of Gyllenhaal and gunfire coming your way.
A release date for “Cut and Run” has yet to be announced. It would appear this film project is still in the early days of development.
