Before "Guardians Of The Galaxy," there were plenty of other movies that did the wild, wacky, space adventure thing (we ran down twenty-six of them), but few are as beloved as "Galaxy Quest." The 1999 sci-fi film has a killer cast that includes Tim Allen, Alan Rickman, Sigourney Weaver, and Sam Rockwell and became a cult favorite, and fans have been hoping for a sequel. Well, that’s not gonna happen, but this might be the next best thing.
Variety reports that Paramount is turning the wheels on a television series version of the "Galaxy Quest." The key creatives from the movie — co-writer Robert Gordon, director Dean Parisot, and executive producers Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein — are all board to work on this new take. The same premise will be used, following the cast of a cancelled ’70s sci-fi show who find themselves in a real deal space adventure, and it’s easy to see how it could translate to a small screen series. So yeah, this is a rare case where reboot is actually not a half bad idea.
Right now, the project is being shopped around town and it seems to be a ways off from becoming a reality. But here’s hoping some network sees the potential.
Awesome. Especially if the original writer and director stay involved. The only thing better would be a film sequel with the original cast.
