October is a time for scares. And this Halloween season, the Criterion Collection is set to serve up one of the best horror films of all time, “Night of the Living Dead,” along with an incredibly creepy thriller from David Lynch, a recent Guatemalan folk horror feature, a Southern-gothic tale, a new Japanese horror classic, and more.

Criterion’s October offerings is headlined by the aforementioned “Night of the Living Dead.” The classic zombie film from George A. Romero is finally getting the 4K Criterion treatment, which includes a UHD release with a 4K digital restoration along with a host of extras including interviews with filmmakers Frank Darabont, Guillermo del Toro, and Robert Rodriguez, a work-print version of the film, as well as two audio commentaries. This is shaping up to be the definitive release of “Night of the Living Dead.”
As mentioned, joining Romero’s classic is also “The Lost Highway,” by filmmaker David Lynch. This UHD release is getting a brand-new 4K digital restoration, supervised and approved by director Lynch, as well as extras such as “Pretty as a Picture: The Art of David Lynch,” a feature-length 1997 documentary by Toby Keeler.
Not to be outdone, Criterion is really stacking October with some incredible releases such as “Eve’s Bayou,” the spellbinding feature debut of filmmaker Kasi Lemmons, Guatemalan auteur Jayro Bustamante’s recent horror film, “La Llorona,” Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s breakthrough horror film, “Cure,” and Frank Capra’s 1944 classic, “Arsenic and Old Lace.”
