Got a Tip?

The Criterion Collection Adding ‘Ghost World,’ ‘Dheepan,’ And More In May

April showers, bring May flowers, and new releases from The Criterion Collection. I know, it’s not my greatest lede ever, but I want to jump right into what’s coming from the boutique label.

Kicking things off is Terry Zwigoff‘s cult favorite “Ghost World” starring Thora Birch and Scarlett Johansson. This one has been in the works for a while now, and while it won’t be coming overflowing with extras, the new 4K restoration should be more than enough to snap this up (along with the lovely cover art, see below).

Speaking of great cover art, Jacques Audiard‘s “Dheepan” gets some great design as it joins the collection. The Palme d’Or winner is also threadbare on the special features, but fans will want to make sure its on the shelf.

Martin Scorsese‘s World Cinema project is unleashing it’s second boxset of newly restored titles, and there are some must-have gems in here including Edward Yang‘s “Taipei Story” and Apichatpong Weerasethakul‘s “Mysterious Object At Noon.” A serious must-have for devoted world cinema heads.

Orson Welles‘ “Othello” is ready for the stage, arriving with a new 4K restoration of both the 1952 European and the 1955 U.S. versions. A short film and steady stream of interviews round out the package.

Lastly, Yasujiro Ozu’s “Good Morning” and Chantal Akerman’s ‘Jeanne Dielman‘ get upgraded to Blu-ray.
