A couple weeks back, things looked a bit uncertain for Martin Scorsese‘s “The Wolf of Wall Street.” Reports surfaced that the filmmaker had only just put together his initial rough cut, and there was still a lot of work to be done if he was to make the previously planned November 15th release date. And things were so up in the air, ideas were floated to possibly move the movie to early 2014 instead, with Paramount eyeing a similar date to “Shutter Island,” one of the director’s biggest box office hits. But audiences, fans and awards season bookies can now start breathing a bit easier as it looks like ‘Wolf’ will still bite this year.
Showbiz 411 is reporting that Scorsese and longtime editor Thelma Schoonmaker are now pressing forward to meet a November 25th deadline to deliver the movie for a couple of reasons. First is so that Paramount can market the movie and have it in theaters by the end of the year, and secondly, Scorsese is the jury president at the Marrakesh Film Festival in December. Essentially, ‘Wolf’ has to be finished before he leaves.
However, if ‘Wolf’ does arrive in December, Paramount may push another movie. THR reveals that the studio wants to drop Scorsese’s picture on Christmas Day— the slot currently occupied by “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit“—and if they move forward with those plans, the Chris Pine-starring flick may be shifted to a January 17th release date instead.
So, things are still in flux to a certain degree, but with a new trailer for “The Wolf of Wall Street” already cut, we’d wager more formal confirmation from Paramount is just around the corner.

But seriously, if they are about to release a Grand Budapest Hotel trailer, does this mean it could get released this year?
Well, with Jack Ryan, that franchise has always been a respected, but decent hits (Even the highest-grossing film Hunt For Red October grossed about $100 million), so no one expected this to be a summer-sized blockbuster. With a January release for a major studio film with a respected cast of reliable actors like Pine, Knightley, Costner and Branagh, with Branagh directing, plus Tom Clancy's recent passing igniting a re-interest in the character, I think it would be the best move for the studio to push it as the first major blockbuster of 2014 over the Martin Luther King weekend. Paramount has had success with that weekend in the past with Cloverfield doing decent numbers in 2008, so Shadow Recruit should be expected to do the same.
This is really gonna f**k up the "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit" Oscar push.

At the paramount pics website, jack ryan is listed as 'coming soon', rather than 'in theaters 12/25', so I'd say wolf's 12/25 release is certain (even though the website still lists it as 11/15)

Is there any truth to the rumours that supposedly so much was filmed that elements contained in the movie could have given the movie an NC-17 rating? Don't know if that involves either sex, violence or both but i've certainly read that somewhere.
Also read that the original length of the movie before editing had a 3hrs + running time?
