Got a Tip?

‘Crazy Heart’ Hits Theaters December 16

Congratulations to the Ocsar bloggers so bored with this predictable awards season that they’ve basically forced Fox Searchlight’s hand.

To recap, “Amelia” sucked, so Searchlight had no Oscar contender, but then thought, “wait, we have…” the country music drama, “Crazy Heart,” starring Colin Farrell, Jeff Bridges, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Robert Duvall in the queue.

The film was supposed to hit for Spring 2010, but with zero Oscar hopefuls, Searchlight screened it for a few select critics this week to gauge their interest. They approved! Voila. Now “Crazy Heart” is being rushed into screens on December 16. We’re all for it. It sounds great and T. Bone Burnett (“O Brother, Where Art Thou?”) wrote the original music.

Now all we need to do is see it and figure out if it’s as good as they say or if it’s just desperate Oscar writers thankful for something new and halfway decent to write about. It’s probably a 50/50 call (i.e. look at overrated things like the Lifetime Movie “Trucker” being drooled over because… why does a dog lick its balls again?)

  1. Well he was the mastermind behind the multi-Grammy winning, Raising Sand, which paired Robert Plant and Alison Krauss together. So that's good. All they need is at least one song as good as The Wrestler by Bruce Springsteen to serve at the emotional core and backbone for Bridges' character but that won't happen. That song is too good, and got royally screwed by the Academy. I also heard Bridges was going to contribute some original songs of his own. Gotta love the actors that think they're musicians.

  2. I saw the trailer on the big screen…Jeff's character shines in a blinding way that makes me believe this movie will draw decent numbers and will land him a best actor berth. Get ready is all i have to say.

  3. don't worry about the music – it was done by Stephen Bruton – yeah, yeah T-bone has his name on it too – but I assure you this is Bruton at his finest.

FYI he chose all the songs for O' brother too…..he and T-bone have been friends since high school. Bruton taught him everything he knows about music…including how to play a guitar!
