What mysteries does a crater hold? A group of friends is about to find out in the Disney+ original movie “Crater.” The film focuses on Caleb Channing, a young boy facing moving after his father’s death — his story just happens to take place in a lunar mining colony. Losing the life he’s known leads Caleb to team up with a few best friends, as well as a colony newcomer, to experience one last adventure together. In the process, they find a memorable quest that exceeds their wildest expectations.

The film hails from director Kyle Patrick Alvarez; before helming the project, Alvarez directed episodes of “13 Reasons Why,” “Counterpart,” and “Tales of the City.” He also directed the very-excellent indie film, “The Stanford Prison Experiment.” Screenwriter John Griffin comes to the film as his work on Netflix’s “Magic: The Gathering” is on course for a 2023 release. “Crater” looks to a young cast — with Isaiah Russell-Bailey, Mckenna Grace, Billy Barratt, Orson Hong, and Thomas Boyce as its stars.
The film’s official synopsis:
“Crater” is the story of Caleb Channing (Russell-Bailey), who was raised on a lunar mining colony and is about to be permanently relocated to an idyllic faraway planet following the death of his father (Mescudi). But before leaving, to fulfill his dad’s last wish, he and his three best friends, Dylan (Barratt), Borney (Hong) and Marcus (Boyce), and a new arrival from Earth, Addison (Grace), hijack a rover for one final adventure on a journey to explore a mysterious crater.”
Emily Morris, John G. Scotti, Rpin Suwannath, Gordon Gray, Paris Latsis, and Terry Douglas are executive producers on “Crater.” The sci-fi film debuts exclusively on Disney+ on May 12. Watch the new trailer below.
