Got a Tip?

‘A Couple Of Dicks’ Gets A New Title & Trailer

Trying to stay current with Kevin Smith’s never ending Twitter feed is like trying to put toothpaste back in the tube, but the director has announced that his upcoming film, “A Couple Of Dicks” now has an official new title and that the trailer will be attached to prints of the other upcoming movie with cock issues, “Sherlock Holmes.” Naturally Smith is playing coy, and didn’t actually reveal the title, preferring to let Warner Brother’s do their thing and get their marketing rollout in place.

We’ll save you the trouble of trawling through Smith’s Twitter feed to find the trilogy of posts about this news and reprint them right here:

DICKS NEWS: The Movie Formerly Known as A COUPLE OF DICKS has finally settled on a (network-policy-dictated) replacement title! we’ll always have DICKS in our hearts, the title we just now locked makes me smile on a bunch of different levels – including this: we can now advertise our movie properly (& ironically). And said marketing begins… on every print of SHERLOCK HOLMES, Christmas Day!

Not only that, Smith tweeted as soon as he saw the trailer for his own movie, and unsurprisingly, he loved it:

I’ve now seen the trailer for my flick with a new title, and fuck, do I dig it. Epic win for WB marketing: then made ME wanna see the flick.

Of course, this isn’t the first time the peepee and poopoo obsessed director has run afoul of studio or marketing execs, but it does seem to be the first time he’s happy with compromise. His last film, “Zack And Miri Make A Porno,” famously had trouble with its posters and its title and eventually underperformed at the box office, leave Smith to cluelessly browbeat his former best buds the Weinsteins for not promoting the film enough. Maybe his sucking up to WB’s marketing team now is to further stick it to Bob & Harvey? Or maybe the candid director is finally playing the game instead of biting the hand that feeds.

Anyway Smith’s comedy caper, “A Couple Of Whatever Just As Long As Its Not A Thinly Veiled Anatomy Joke” opens on February 26th and stars Bruce Willis, Seann William Scott, Jason Lee, Adam Brody, Tracy Morgan and Michelle Trachtenberg. This films marks Smith’s first foray directing someone else’s script (which could be another reason he seems so agreeable these days), so it will be interesting to see how this opens him up as a director (or not).

Up next for Smith is most likely his hockey movie, “Hit Somebody,” unless money for his long gestating horror film “Red State” suddenly appears, but we’re not going to hold our breath for that to happen.
