There was a crooked man, and he walked a crooked mile/He found a crooked sixpence upon a crooked stile/He bought a crooked cat, which caught a crooked mouse/And they all lived together in a little crooked house. So goes the English nursery rhyme that everyone got reacquainted with in last summer’s horror sequel “The Conjuring 2,” and the character who popped up to deliver the lines in the film is now getting his own flick.
Following “Annabelle,” the prequel to “The Conjuring” (and it’s summer-bound sequel), and “The Nun,” which launches next year and springs from “The Conjuring 2,” the third spinoff from this universe (can we call it that?) is coming with “The Crooked Man.” Mike Van Waes will be writing the script, which is based on a story from franchise creator James Wan and will focus on the Slender Man creature. Of course, there are no exact details yet, but Wan knows this formula so well by now that it’s certain that fans are going to show up. And for those who don’t even know the character, the rhyme was referenced in the latest season of “Fargo,” so perhaps they won’t be totally in the dark.

As for “The Conjuring 3,” there is no word on if/when it might happen. But it seems like Warner Bros. is more than happy with how the franchise is growing at the moment. [THR]
