Got a Tip?

Confirmed: Sony Pictures Classics Picks Up David Cronenberg’s ‘A Dangerous Method’

Just yesterday, we were wondering if David Cronenberg‘s “A Dangerous Method” was headed to Sony Pictures Classics. A helpful reader recently pointed out to us that the website adangerousmethodfilm.com automatically redirects to the Sony Pictures Classics homepage, and while we put in some inquiries we received radio silence in return. Now we know why.

The arthouse shingle officially confirmed today that they have nabbed the U.S. rights to the film, marking their second team-up with Cronenberg following “Spider.” Based on Christopher Hampton‘s acclaimed 2002 play “The Talking Cure” and starring the very promising trio of Michael Fassbender, Keira Knightley and Viggo Mortensen, the film will center on the relationship between Carl Jung (Fassbender) and Russian-Jewish patient Sabina Spielrein (Knightley), which ultimately causes a rift between Jung and mentor Sigmund Freud (Mortensen), but also catalyzes strong findings in regards to Jungian psychoanalysis. Vincent Cassel and Sarah Gadon (who also has a role in Cronenberg’s “Cosmopolis”) co-star.

No release date has been set, but with a Venice premiere in the works expect it to hit the circuit hard this fall, and if word is good, it will be pushed for awards season contention. Now, how about a proper trailer to replace the shit version that’s floating around (and apparently popping up in front of screenings of “The Tree Of Life“)? Until then, check the official logline below.

Seduced by the challenge of an impossible case, the driven Dr. Jung (Michael Fassbender) takes the unbalanced yet beautiful Sabina Spielrein (Keira Knightley) as his patient in A DANGEROUS METHOD. Jung’s weapon is the method of his master, the renowned Sigmund Freud. Both men fall under Sabina’s spell.
