Got a Tip?

Colin Farrell To Star In Sofia Coppola’s Remake Of Clint Eastwood’s ‘The Beguiled’

Earlier this spring, rumors swirled that Sofia Coppola was developing a remake of Clint Eastwood‘s “The Beguiled,” directed by Don Siegel, and that she had Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst and Elle Fanning slated to star. It sounded too good to be true, but alas it’s all real. Coppola is indeed remaking “The Beguiled,” and she’s found the leading man to join that trio of actresses.

Variety reports that Colin Farrell is in talks to star in the picture. The film will offer a new take on material that’s based on the Southern Gothic novel by Thomas P. Cullinan following a Union soldier who is taken into a Southern girls’ academy, setting off a chain reaction of jealousy, hate and lust.

There’s no official word yet the rest of the casting, nor is there a start date, but it looks like the everything is starting to come together. New Sofia Coppola movie in 2017? Keep your fingers crossed.

  1. What? The casting of Kidman, Dunst, Fanning IS confirmed.

Sofia Coppola confirmed it in an interview with The Telegraph in May and mentioned always wanting to work with Kidman:

Kirsten Dunst spoke about it (and mentioned working with Nicole and Elle by name) in a video interview with the LA Times after getting back from Cannes (The Beguiled talk is about 17:34 in):

And Elle Fanning has mentioned the project a few times in the past couple of months while promoting The Neon Demon but the latest mention was late last month in an interview with Aint it Cool News:

The Variety article even mentions them lol. As of now, they’re all in it.

  2. Usually I’d be against remakes in general and especially of Eastwood’s films but, although The Beguiled is a great film, it could do with being redone. I hope they keep the gothic sense of threat from the original.
