Got a Tip?

Clint Mansell Scoring David Bowie’s Kids Directorial Debut ‘The Moon’

We haven’t really been paying close attention to the sci-fi film, “Moon” starring Sam Rockwell, but it has been on our radar a little bit. Mostly because its the feature-length directorial debut of Duncan Jones, son of one David Bowie.

But also because composer extraordinaire Clint Mansell is doing the score. Mansell is known for his working composing all the music of Darren Aronofsky’s films (including thrilling music for “Requiem For A Dream,” and “The Fountain”). His film music is so damn good it keeps being recycled in trailers by directors trying to give their films a little juice (from “Lord Of The Rings” to “I Am Legendhis music is being constantly aped).

Mansell also wrote the music to Aronofsky’s upcoming drama, “The Wrestler,” starring Mickey Rourke and its a nice shifting of gears as the music is mostly a moody and minimalist guitar score that repeats over like a mantra. So anywhoo, yeah, Mansell is doing the music for “Moon” which will premiere at Sundance 2009. It’s at least one reason to be interested in the film.

He’s apparently also doing music for a film called, “The Calling” which will probably show up in 2009. There’s also, “Dream from Leaving” which is allegedly coming out this year, but info is scarce and we know little about it.

Oh, did you know that even “Frost/Nixon” nicked some of his “The Fountain” score for its trailer? Weird, right? Here’s that trailer, it’s near the end around the 1:38 mark. Oh thanks to /Film for some of the “Moon” montage images.
