Got a Tip?

Clint Mansell Scores BBC TV Soccer Pic ‘United’; Jonathan Goldsmith Tunes Up ‘Take This Waltz’

While next week’s “Source Code” will be without a score by Clint Mansell who left the project citing scheduling conflicts and was replaced by Chris Bacon, the composer is certainly busy. Last month he was hired to score the videogame “Mass Effect 3” (take that Roger “video-games-aren’t-art” Ebert!) and now he’s got another film project on his plate.

Film Music Reporter reveals that Mansell has been tapped to tune up the BBC TV production “United.” Marking Mansell’s first feature television credit, the movie directed by James Strong will tell the inspiring and tragic story of Manchester United’s “Busby Babes.” They were the youngest team to ever win the Football League but eight teammates died in 1958 Munich Air plane crash. The film starring David Tennant and Sam Clafin is in post-production, but no air date has been set just yet.

Meanwhile, Sarah Polley is getting her latest, “Take This Waltz,” ready and has re-teamed with her “Away From Her” composer Jonathan Goldsmith to score the film. Starring Michelle Williams and Seth Rogen, Polley’s film follows Margot, a 28-year-old woman who’s been married to her husband Leo (Rogen) for five years. She meets a man named Seth on a business trip who turns out to live across the street from the couple and the two begin an awkward flirtation, which soon threatens to blossom into something more. However, it’s not just Goldsmith’s music that will feature in the film.

Last year it was revealed that the songs of Leonard Cohen (likely including the title track) as well as songs from a variety of yet to be named indie bands would also appear on the soundtrack. We can’t wait. No release date for the film yet but a TIFF premiere seem inevitable.

And, oh yeah, the reason we don’t have a picture of Goldsmith up top? He pretty much has no internet image presence, which is complicated by the fact that the dude who plays “The Most Interesting Man In The World” in those Dos Equis ads is also named Jonathan Goldsmith. And no, they aren’t the same person though that would be fucking amazing.
