Well, it’s time to stop hoping that Rooney Mara will return to play Lisbeth Salandar after her Oscar nominated turn in David Fincher‘s “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.” Sony is rebooting the character, and this year we’ve heard a handful of contenders for the role knocked around including A-listers Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson, before rising “The Crown” star Claire Foy was declared the frontrunner. Well, she has the gig.

The contracts have been signed and Foy will play Lisbeth Salander in “The Girl In The Spider’s Web.” Fede Alvarez (“Don’t’ Breathe“) is directing the movie, and co-wrote the script with Jay Basu and Steven Knight (“Locke,” “Eastern Promises“). It will certainly be a big step away from Foy’s regal role in the hit Netflix series, but it opens a huge franchise door for the actress who leaves the show after its upcoming second. Here’s the book synopsis:
