Christopher Nolan has a list of regulars he uses on each film, but after making four straight pictures together — "The Dark Knight" trilogy and "Inception" — Cillian Murphy was not invited to the party for "Interstellar." But he’s back on the roster for Nolan’s next effort, which features a rather eclectic cast.
Murphy is joining newcomer Fionn Whitehead, Jack Lowden, Aneurin Barnard, One Direction singer Harry Styles, Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance and Kenneth Branagh in "Dunkirk." The film is inspired by Operation Dynamo, the near-miraculous evacuation of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) and other Allied troops from the French seaport of Dunkirk, which took place from May-June of 1940. Hoyte van Hoytema ("Interstellar") is lensing the picture, with Hans Zimmer providing the score.
Murphy will join Hardy, Rylance and Branagh in a supporting role, with the younger actors taking the lead. No word yet on a part for Michael Caine, but surely there is one, right?
"Dunkirk" opens on July 21, 2017. [The Wrap]
I have to agree w Michael, of all the WW2 stories to tell, this one seems strange.
Oh, a new movie on this great "british victory". Fleeing the battlefield, saving 300.000 soldiers who barely shot germans, and letting 40.000 french and belgian soldiers to die to cover their retreat. Love british humour and cynicism 😉
Still, Nolan makes great movies, and I\’m surely gonna watch it!
Mark Rylance can tell a story better than its author.
This cast is incredible (I\’ll reserve my judgement on Harry Stiles…). And with Nolan at the helm it\’s going to be awesome!
"four straight pictures together — "The Dark Knight" trilogy and "Inception"" – that\’s not four straight pictures, you\’re forgetting The Prestige.
Big fan of Hardy? Big fan of NOLAN. The film I most look forward to and a great cast. Yeah, Michael Caine is surely in it somewhere
Good news! I\’m looking forward to this one. Big fan of Hardy!
