There aren’t very many actors working today that have as packed a schedule as Chris Pratt. Obviously, on the docket, he has an appearance in the forthcoming Marvel films, “Thor: Love and Thunder” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.” But outside of his superhero work, there’s a new TV series with Antoine Fuqua, the third “Jurassic World” feature, a new buddy action film, and now, an indie comedy titled “Black Belt.”

According to Deadline, Pratt has joined the upcoming film, “Black Belt,” as a producer and star. The film is said to tell the story of a young boy that is desperately trying to become a master of karate. He is joined on this quest by his unorthodox uncle (presumably played by Chris Pratt). And let’s be honest, when you think of a funny, slightly strange uncle, you think of Chris Pratt. (Meant as a complete compliment.)
“Black Belt” is written by Randall Green. The screenwriter has a fairly large number of recent credits under his belt, including episodes of “Billions” and the Netflix teen rom-com, “The Perfect Date.” He also has written a couple of other projects that have yet to be produced, such as “The Swimsuit Issue” and “The Great Outdoors.”
As mentioned, Pratt is a very busy guy, so it’s unclear how “Black Belt” fits into his current schedule. Can he slot in the indie comedy between blockbusters or is “Black Belt” still months away from filming? Without a director lined up, right now, it appears that perhaps it’s more of the latter situation. We’ll just have to wait and see.
