Chloe Grace Moretz started her acting career at the age of seven, and as we know, the path of a child actor can end up taking some weird directions. But the actress, now nineteen, has managed to steer clear of the pitfalls that have befallen some before her, and it seems she’s now taking a moment to reflect, and think hard about where she wants her career to go.
Currently on the festival circuit where she’s promoting the drama “Brain On Fire” (our review), the actress not only revealed she was dropping out of Universal‘s brewing, live action “The Little Mermaid,” but she’s scrapping anything else she’s currently attached to.
“I pulled the plug on all my movies because I want to reassess who I am and find myself within my roles again. I’m realizing that I can slow down,” she told THR.
“I’m just becoming more picky and particular about what roles I’m choosing. I think as an actor you have a huge opportunity to find yourself through the roles that you choose. I think it’s my time, right now in my life, to figure out who I am and what I am and what I want and what this industry means,” Moretz elaborated to E!. “Why not sit back, slow down, realize I’m 19 and go, ‘Hey, let’s make stuff that really, really hits hard with who I am and helps me figure out what it means to be a 19-year-old actor who is just doing her thing.’ ”
So, what do her current plans include? Producing, developing some TV projects, and campaigning for Hillary Clinton. This hardly sounds like an actress in crisis, but a mature move by Moretz, who seems to be aiming to work on material and projects that are more personally fulfilling.
Hollywood will continue to turn, Universal will find a new lead for their project, while Disney won’t mind getting the upper hand with their competing blockbuster. But Moretz looks to be carving out a new path for herself, and it’ll be fascinating to see where it takes her. [ScreenCrush]
