Unless you’re a hardcore horror fan, you’re probably not aware that Stephen King’s story, “Children of the Corn,” not only spawned a popular 1984 original film but would go on to inspire a franchise that includes a series of nine films and a made-for-TV remake back in 2009. And now, it’s got a second remake arriving in theaters in March. That would make a total of 11 “Children of the Corn” films. Amazing, right?
As seen in the trailer for “Children of the Corn,” the remake shares the same basic premise of the previous films, as an evil entity possesses the body of a young girl, who vows to kill every adult in her small Nebraska town. This young girl’s evil plan is interrupted by a teenager who aims to stop the little girl and her murderous rampage.
The latest “Children of the Corn” remake has been languishing on the shelf for a while now, as filming began and ended way back in 2020. Since then, the film has been sitting idle until this year, when RLJE Films and Shudder landed the distribution rights. The film stars Elena Kampouris, Kate Moyer, Callan Mulvey, and Bruce Spence. “Children of the Corn” is written and directed by Kurt Wimmer. Interestingly, this marks the first feature film Wimmer has directed since 2006’s “Ultraviolet.” Before that, he also helmed “Equilibrium.”
“Children of the Corn” arrives in theaters on March 3 before hitting On-Demand and Digital on March 21. You can watch the trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
Possessed by a spirit in a dying cornfield, a twelve-year-old girl in Nebraska recruits the other children in her small town to go on a bloody rampage and kill all the adults and anyone else who opposes her. A bright high schooler who won’t go along with the plan is the town’s only hope of survival.
