Remember that project “The Tourist” that Tom Cruise was going to tackle? (No, not the ’80s Blade Runner-ish sci-fi film that was never made). Well, it looks like the project is on and its found its leading lady in Charlize Theron who is in final negotiations to take the part. Based on the 2005 French thriller, “Anthony Zimmerman,” where a genius career criminal is wanted by police around the world, Theron will play the Interpol agent (originally played by a man), who uses an American tourist in an attempt to flush out an elusive criminal (Cruise) with whom she once had an affair. Production is expected to commence in March.The pic is being directed by Bharat Nalluri, (“Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day“) and the script was written by Christopher McQuarrie who wrote, “The Usual Suspects,” and the upcoming “Valkryie.” In the original, Bond girl Sophie Marceau (“The World Is Not Enough”) played the Tourist. The writer who basically broke the review embargo on “Milk” himself, David Poland — after seeing the film he immediately wrote via his IPhone, calling the film “a brilliant, powerfully humane piece of work,” and that “Sean Penn gives an Oscar lock performance of power and subtlety that ranks with the best of his career,” if that’s not a review, we don’t know what is — is now bitching about the fact that Variety and THR “broke” the review Embargo on “Milk” when they wrote full-blown reviews after him.
