Got a Tip?

Charlize Theron Suggests She May Not Return As Furiosa After ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’

Mad Max: Fury RoadOne our most eagerly awaited films of the month, if not the entire summer, is "Mad Max: Fury Road," and in just a couple of weeks it’ll bring the business to the Cannes Film Festival and to theaters nationwide. And if all goes well, you can bet there will be more. George Miller has already said he’s got scripts written for followup films, and Tom Hardy recently revealed he’s attached to three more ‘Mad Max’ entries. But what about his co-star Charlize Theron, who early reports suggested didn’t get along too well with Hardy on set (the actor has downplayed that chatter)? Well, it appears she’s in no rush to return, particularly given that some days the shoot was operating on a high wire.

“There were times when I was like, ‘George! What are we doing?!’ Theron told Entertainment Weekly (print edition). “We would show up with no scene numbers — we couldn’t even have a call sheet. And you look around and go, ‘What the fuck is going on?!’
But eventually the shoot would get moving and the actress admits, “you look at George and go, ‘All right. That was awesome.’ " And she enjoyed the world Miller created, particularly when it came to the female characters. “What runs loudly for me is the importance that women have in this world of survival,” Theron said. “I was very happy to be a girl with boobies and to be part of that.”
Still, she’s hesitant about doing more. “There’s no part of me that’s like, ‘No fucking way will I ever do that [again].’ But this movie was made, for George, for all the right reasons. Unless that happens again, I wouldn’t trust the process.”

But let’s not get hung up on sequels — "Mad Max: Fury Road" has yet to arrive, and we’re prepared to be blown away on May 15th.

  1. You are a mean little shit. It wasn\’t about not getting along. It\’s the story. It\’s about Max, not Furiosa. He\’s the only character who appears in all movies.

  2. lol, what\’s she going to say? She\’s not going to come out and say she can\’t stand Hardy, so she\’s using the director as an excuse right now. She probably knows he has something else lined up and doesn\’t want to do a sequel. And if you saw the red carpet at the premiere, you\’d know she can\’t stand Hardy. The stood next to each other for about a minute for pics, and they split up and for all the rest of the cast pics, there were several people in between them at all times. Plus, he told a TV reporter that she broke his nose twice during shooting, and they showed footage of it, and then they asked her about it and she said she never broke his nose. Shows how little communication they had while filming. He had his nose broken twice and she wasn\’t even AWARE of it. That means they had no meals together, they didn\’t hang out, they didn\’t even SPEAK between takes. Of course she\’s not going to do the sequel, use your brain.

  3. monster, you gossiping hen, wouldn\’t it be crazy if you could actually read the articles you commented on.

and she says she wouldn\’t return if it weren\’t george miller doing it. if it were just some suit trying to cash in on the "mad max" brand. which half the people in comment threads seem to think this movie is already. and she shouldn\’t. but great clickbait headline.

  4. Rumor had it that Charlize and Tom Hardy couldn\’t stand each other, and since she only talks about the director, I would imagine those rumors were true. Hardy is probably the main reason she wouldn\’t want to do a sequel. It will be interesting to see if they release any behind the scenes stuff that includes the two of them, or if it\’s all going to be special effects stuff focusing on one or the other, but not any scenes they\’re in together. I\’ll bet the extras and crew could tell some hair raising stories if they wanted to.
