Following the smash success of “John Wick,” co-directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch each took their own path. Stahelski stuck with the franchise, and is currently basking in the critical and box office success of “John Wick: Chapter 2.” Meanwhile, Leitch went off and helmed an adaptation of the graphic novel “The Coldest City” starring Charlize Theron. Now titled “Atomic Blonde,” the movie is coming and it will be a good taste of what he can do on his own before he helms “Deadpool 2.”
Co-starring James McAvoy, John Goodman, Til Schweiger, Eddie Marsan, Sofia Boutella and Toby Jones, the simple premise follows a British spy sent on a dangerous mission into enemy territory. Here’s the official synopsis:
The crown jewel of Her Majesty’s Secret Intelligence Service, Agent Lorraine Broughton (Theron) is equal parts spycraft, sensuality and savagery, willing to deploy any of her skills to stay alive on her impossible mission. Sent alone into Berlin to deliver a priceless dossier out of the destabilized city, she partners with embedded station chief David Percival (James McAvoy) to navigate her way through the deadliest game of spies.
“Atomic Blonde” will premiere at SXSW, and opens in cinemas on July 28th.
