You wouldn’t know it by the title of the series, but “Chapelwaite” is based on a Stephen King short story, “Jerusalem’s Lot,” which serves as a prequel of sorts to the author’s very famous novel, “Salem’s Lot.” But now that everything King has ever put to paper is being adapted for film or TV, it was only a matter of time before the “Jerusalem’s Lot” story was made into a big-budget series for EPIX.
As seen in the first trailer for “Chapelwaite,” the story follows a 19th-century family led by Captain Charles Boone, played by Adrien Brody, who moves his family to Preacher’s Corner, Maine after the death of his wife. However, while there, Boone and his young children discover the house they own is supposedly cursed and it leads the townsfolk to treat the new family with a bit of disdain. Of course, since this is a King story, it’s not all talk, as it is revealed that there definitely is evil lurking around the corner.
Joining Brody in the cast is Emily Hampshire, who is probably best known for her role on the comedy series, “Schitt’s Creek.” However, as seen in the footage for “Chapelwaite,” Hampshire is playing a very different role on the new series, as the young woman that is hired to help the Boone family adjust to the craziness that is happening in Preacher’s Corners.
“Chapelwaite” debuts on EPIX on August 22. You can watch the trailer below.

Set in the 1850s, the Chapelwaite follows Captain Charles Boone (Brody), who relocates his family of three children to his ancestral home in the small, seemingly sleepy town of Preacher’s Corners, Maine after his wife dies at sea. However, Charles will soon have to confront the secrets of his family’s sordid history, and fight to end the darkness that has plagued the Boones for generations.
