Got a Tip?

Channing Tatum To Produce & Star In Adaptation Of ‘The Contortionist’s Handbook’

Generally speaking, the films of Channing Tatum haven’t been titles we’ve gravitated towards, however, a quick look at his filmography shows that for every “Step Up” or “Dear John” there’s a “Stop/Loss” and “Public Enemies.” And with roles in Steven Soderbergh’s “Haywire,” Kevin Macdonald’s “The Eagle” and “Son Of No One” with Al Pacino and Juliette Binoche all coming in 2011, the actor has taken some big strides to be taken as a serious actor.

Deadline reports that he has added yet another mature project to his plate. Tatum is set to produce and star in an adaptation of Craig Clevenger’s novel “The Contortionist’s Handbook.” In the film “Tatum will play a forger who moves smoothly from one identity to the next because of a strict code of conduct that keeps him from getting caught or having to deal with his own troubled past. That gets upended when he falls for a beautiful woman with her own dark secret.”

The film has a script by Robin Shushan but no director attached just yet. But Tatum will have plenty of time to get somebody on board as it’s not expected to go in front of cameras until 2011 at the earliest due to the actor’s busy schedule.

This writer has a weak spot for con-man films and this one definitely sounds intriguing. And regardless of your thoughts on Tatum, it should be heartening that a young actor is keen on producing and is choosing projects with a bit of meat on them.

  1. The book is outstanding.

If you have the means, I highly recommend you pick it up before the movie drops.

If it gets the right director to set the right tone, it could be great.

  2. That is an amazing book but, Tatum's casting is very odd.
I am a huge fan of Clevenger. I post/lurk on the forum, The Velvet, that is for him and 2 other writers I admire.
I agree with the above commenter, you should pick up the book before the film comes out.
