Got a Tip?

Changing Her Tune? Jennifer Lawrence Says She’s “Dying” To Return For More ‘X-Men’ Sequels

X-Men: Days Of Future PastOh, really? This is interesting.“It is my last one, actually,” Jennifer Lawrence said back in March of 2015. Her career at an apex, she had only signed up for a three-film contract with the “X-Men” franchise and given that she’d become an Academy Award mainstay — she has been nominated four times in five years and has one Best Actress Oscar actor under her belt—it seemed the thespian, tired of tedious blue make-up application, was done with the series. And her comment of course, came on the heels of a potential Mystique movie.

The shapeshifter had always been a supporting character in the comics and the movies, but Lawrence proved to be such a huge star during the middle of the “X-Men” movies, 20th Century Fox had thought to leverage her popularity by giving her character a solo film (indeed, they gave the character an amped up role in ‘Days Of Future Past’ and look to be doing the same in the upcoming “X-Men: Apocalypse”). But perhaps with Lawrence vocal about not returning to the series past her contract, the mooted idea of a Mystique film quickly went away.

But is the star changing her tune? In a recent interview with Empire, the actress said, “I am dying to come back.” She continued, “I love these movies, I love being in them. I love ensemble movies because it’s not on anyone’s shoulders."

The quote gives a lot of hope for fans, but they should probably note that unless there’s a trade report that says she’s reupped her contract, the actress is done now. She’s certainly complained about the make-up that took several hours to apply each day not to mention the “fumes and toxins” she inhaled through its administration (and it seems as if Lawrence had another role she would’ve been happy to stay on).

“It’s just the paint,” she said regarding her main complaint with the role last year. "Now I’m almost 25 and I’m like, ‘I can’t even pronounce this [substance] and that’s going in my nose? I’m breathing that?’” So has the actress changed her mind? Given that she’s been away from the part, the paint and the role for several months now, I’m sure it’s easy for her to say she’d love to come back, but I don’t honestly buy it. Actors take franchise roles to launch their careers, which she did with “Hunger Games” and “X-Men.” But now Jennifer Lawrence is the highest paid female actress on the planet and has her pick of every prestige film on the planet, not unlike Leonardo DiCaprio.

I suppose she could come back, but with director Bryan Singer moving on, and the main trio of James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Lawrence all about to finish their three-part contracts, don’t be surprised if 20th Century Fox takes a beat to figure out what’s next, who’s really coming back, and maybe focus on “Deadpool” and that spin-off world for the immediate future.

Meanwhile, you’ll see Lawrence at least one last time in “X-Men: Apocalypse" which opens on May 27th, 2016.

  1. Jennifer Lawrence is amazing, I would watch her in anything. I don\’t know if it\’s true that she is "dying" to come back, I think she said that a long time ago…but Fassbender and McAvoy are coming back so why not. She is currently working with Darren Aronofsky, doing indie films and I would like to see her in more of these challenging roles, but having also a franchise on the side is not bad.

  2. Joy wasn`t a massive hit and despite her Oscar nomination for it, she may be a little worried she`s losing her juice.Franchises take the pressure off a bit.
