Chadwick Boseman Raves About Spike Lee & The Upcoming ‘Da 5 Bloods’: “He Never Ceases To Amaze Me”

If Chadwick Boseman’s career is a rollercoaster, the actor is still on his way up the first hill, but he sure is going fast. After some early, but relatively lowkey acclaim in films like “42” and “Get On Up,” Boseman really took off thanks to the lead role in Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther.” Now, he’s one of the most in-demand talents in Hollywood, starring in films like the upcoming “21 Bridges” and Spike Lee’s next film “Da 5 Bloods.”

And when he recently spoke on an episode of The Fourth Wall podcast (the full episode can be heard here), Boseman opened up about a couple of his future projects, including the follow-up film to the Oscar-winning “BlacKkKlansman” from Lee. In fact, in talking about “Da 5 Bloods,” the actor explains how the film perfectly shows what the iconic filmmaker is capable of.

“He never ceases to amaze me in terms of angles and scopes of Black characters that he finds to show,” said Boseman. “I think that’s what you can expect. A lot of times, people will try to stereotype and put racism in a box. The Black guy has to do this and do that.”

He continued, “And it was just interesting to find, with these men, that there are some things about them you’re like oh wow I didn’t expect that. And I think it’s going to be good to see if you have a box you put somebody in, you gotta take a couple of these characters out of those boxes. That’s what I love about Spike.”

In addition to talking about the upcoming film “Da 5 Bloods,” Boseman also brought up the Marvel franchise that took the world by storm in 2018, “Black Panther.” Though he goes into more detail in the full interview, the actor did say that he’s excited that everything that he contributed to the film either made it into the first “Black Panther” or will end up being used in the sequel.

“Yeah, I think everything,” said the actor of his contributions used in the franchise. “If it ain’t in the first one, then you know it’ll be in [‘Black Panther 2’]. I think so. There’s more to do.”

While we’re still pretty far away from seeing “Da 5 Bloods” and “Black Panther 2” in theaters, you can catch Boseman in the new thriller “21 Bridges,” which arrives in theaters on November 22. And you can listen to the full interview with the actor on The Fourth Wall podcast.
