Got a Tip?

Cate Blanchett Is Set To Play A Performance Artist For An Episode Of ‘Documentary Now!’

Two time Oscar winner, Cate Blanchett has some interesting projects on the way. This September, fans can see Blanchett tackle a children’s fantasy film in Eli Roth‘s “The House With A Clock In Its Walls,” co-starring Jack Black. Now, IFC has announced the Oscar winner will take on the role of a performance artist in an upcoming episode of the series, “Documentary Now!

The IFC show was created by Saturday Night Live alums Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, and Seth Meyers and debuted in 2015. “Documentary Now!” comprises a parody of famous documentaries like “The Thin Blue Line” and “Grey Gardens.” Previous guest roles have been taken on by Faye Dunaway and Maya Rudolph with the show often hosted by Helen Mirren.

According to Deadline, Blanchett will be the latest guest star to appear on the show. The accomplished actress will tackle the role of Izabella Barta, a performance artist similar to Marina Abramovic. The episode was filmed on location in Budapest, Hungary and will see Blanchett showing off her comedic timing, performance art, and even her own stunts all the while reconciling her tumultuous relationship with a former lover, Dimo Van Omen (played by Armisen).

Blanchett has taken on her fair share of eccentric, complicated characters. With the additive of comedy, the actress will surely give another winning and memorable performance. “Documentary Now!” operates on its own brand of awkward, situational comedy. Often times mimicking moments in renowned documentaries. Who could forget Bill Hader’s Little Vivvy flag dance inspired by “Grey Gardens'” Little Edie? Blanchett will, undoubtedly, bring her own style to the show. But if her career has told audiences anything, it’s that the actress will mold right into the frame, like a cast member who has been with the show this whole time.

The new seven-episode season of “Documentary Now!” is set to premiere February 20.
