Got a Tip?

Cate Blanchett In Talks To Star In Eli Roth’s ‘Borderlands’

Cate Blanchett is an enigma. She’s one of the single-best actors on the face of the planet, yet she’s not one that will use that talent to cherry-pick roles that you might guess she’d take. Obviously, she’s able to walk into a room and land whatever role she wants, but instead of using that superpower to only act in major Oscar-worthy pictures, Blanchett is willing to still dabble in blockbusters, as we saw with her scene-stealing performance in “Thor: Ragnarok,” as well as ‘Lord of the Rings’ films and 2018’s “Ocean’s 8.” Now, it appears she’s willing to venture into the world of video games for a new film titled “Borderlands.”

According to Variety, Blanchett is in talks to star in the upcoming film adaptation of the popular video game “Borderlands,” being developed over at Lionsgate. If she takes the role, Blanchett will star as Lilith in the film, which tells the story of a post-apocalyptic sci-fi world which was abandoned by a mega-corporation, leaving its citizens to fight each other. Think “Mad Max” with a more sci-fi feel. Blanchett’s character is one of a few women in the world that are gifted with powers that set her apart from the rest of the population.

“Borderlands” is being adapted for the big screen by Craig Mazin, who is probably best known as the writer-creator of HBO’s acclaimed series “Chernobyl.” The film is reportedly set to be directed by none other than Eli Roth.

Listing all of Cate Blanchett’s notable films and TV series would take all day, but suffice it to say, the two-time Oscar-winning actress is one of the biggest A-listers available and would make a huge addition to the upcoming film. And when it comes to video game adaptations, which are notoriously bad and unable to capture the excitement of their source material, having Blanchett aboard adds some much-needed credibility to the production.

Blanchett is next expected to be seen in Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming film, “Nightmare Alley.” Currently, she is the star of the FX on Hulu series “Mrs. America.”
