It looks like "The Hunger Games" pals Woody Harrelson and Liam Hemsworth are eager to spend their time away from the YA franchise together as well. Future bromance? We’ll see, but this project does sound interesting. The pair will star in the revenge western "By Way Of Helena." Kieran Darcy-Smith ("Wish You Were Here") will direct this one that will find Hemsworth playing "David, an 1880s Texas Ranger sent to an isolated frontier town to investigate a series of mysterious murders. There he squares off against Harrelson as a local preacher named Abraham who holds the townsfolk in a fearful grip." Matt Cook ("Triple Nine") penned the Black List script with shooting starting in September. [Deadline]
Up and comer David Dastmalchian ("The Dark Knight," "Prisoners") has bagged a role in "Ant-Man." No word yet on his part in the former Edgar Wright project, that’s now moving ahead with Peyton Reed directing. [Deadline]
Olga Kurylenko, along with Gregory Fitoussi and Emir Kusturica, will star in the dramedy "Lota" to be directed by Benoit Philippon ("Lullaby"). The movie will follow "a young woman who was abused during her childhood and struggles to build healthy relationships with men." So what’s the comedy part of that again? Production will begin next year. [Variety]
WWE star John Cena will flex his comedy muscles for "The Nest." He’ll join Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, James Brolin, Ike Barinholtz, Maya Rudolph and John Leguizamo in the movie about "two sisters who throw one last party in their parents’ soon-to-be-sold house." Cena will apparently play the "villain," with "Pitch Perfect" helmer John Moore directing. [Deadline]
Olivia Munn, who has a thankless role in this week’s "Deliver Us From Evil," has booked another movie that will probably once again not utilize her skills very well. The actress—pending scheduling—will join Kevin Hart and Ice Cube in "Ride Along 2." This time around, the cop duo "travel to Miami for fun, chaos and shenanigans." Tim Story will direct. [Variety]
"Spring Breakers" and "Pretty Little Liars" star Ashey Benson has joined "Pixels" with Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Monaghan and Brian Cox. The ambitious movie will follow "aliens who misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them and attack Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults. President Will Cooper (James) has to call on his childhood best friend, ’80s video game champion Sam Brenner (Sandler), to lead a team of old-school arcaders (Dinklage and Gad) to defeat the aliens and save the planet." Benson will play a warrior from the fictional game Dojo Quest named Lady Lisa. [The Wrap]
Correction: Florewood State Park
It will be filmed in Mississippi at Florewood State Plant in Greenwood, according to an article in The Greenwood Commonwealth.
It's a shortie standoff! Hope there's a lot of long-distance vista camerawork 😉
Also, Pixels sounds like it could be fun, except for Kevin James as president. Oh and Chris Columbus directing.
