Yesterday, the internet got into a minor tizzy when word floated that Tina Fey was working on "Hocus Pocus 2." Well, that wasn’t true but she does have a project on the way that will combine the supernatural along with some laughs, so here’s the real deal on what’s cooking. Fey is producing a project with Disney that is said to be in the spirit of "Ghostbusters," and will involve witches. That’s it, that’s all. No more details at the moment, but it looks like Disney hasn’t decided to touch your beloved "Hocus Pocus"….yet….. [Deadline]
Kevin Hart and Ice Cube have more company joining them for "Ride Along 2." Yesterday it was Olivia Munn, and today it’s Ken Jeong. He’ll be playing "a cocky computer hacker who fancies himself a ladies man but who also is key in solving the case that Cube and Hart are working on." We’re sure it will be a very nuanced and subtle performance. This time around the action will take place in Miami, and Tim Story is back to direct. [THR]
Tim Roth is joining "Chronic" with "Grimm" star Bitsie Tulloch. The story will follow "a depressed nurse practitioner who assists terminally ill patients and tries to reconnect with the family he abandoned." Michel Franco ("After Lucia") will direct. [Deadline]
The internet seemed to forget that aside from a decent score turned in by John Debney before he hit it big, Hocus Pocus sucked. A lot. Just because it can be run through the nostalgia-fier doesn't make it somehow a good film.
I write the above having seen it in a theater. A bargain theater where even then I paid a bit too much.
