After a stint working on indie movies with Jeff Nichols‘ “Mud” opening earlier this year, Atom Egoyan‘s “The Devil’s Knot” hitting the festival circuit, and Paul Thomas Anderson‘s “Inherent Vice” probably landing sometime next year, the actress is going back to making movies that will pay the bills. She’s headed to Disney to make the fairy tale comedy, “Happily Ever After.“ Based on a pitch by Nahnatchka Khan (producer behind “American Dad!” and “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23“), the story will “catch up with a prince and princess about 10 years after they have ridden off into the sunset for their ‘happily ever after.’ The couple discovers that even in fairy-tale land, you have to work to keep your relationship and your life together.” Sounds tedious! While the Internet continues to speculate about what Brad Bird‘s “Tomorrowland” is really about, the picture continues to push forward, adding the excellent Kathryn Hahn to the cast. She’ll join George Clooney, Hugh Laurie and Britt Robertson in the movie that’s officially about “a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity and a former boy-genius inventor jaded by disillusionment [who] embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory as Tomorrowland.” Hahn will be taking the comedic role of Ursula in the film which is now shooting. [THR]
Pierce Brosnan is going to have computer problems in “I.T.” He’ll star in the movie, penned by Dan Kay, playing “a successful book publisher who finds himself pitted against a young disgruntled I.T. consultant who is tech savvy and uses that to threaten the author’s family and livelihood.” Wasn’t this movie called “Firewall“? Anyway, Stefano Sollima directs the movie that will shoot next year. [Deadline]
Angelina Jolie‘s WWII drama “Unbroken” has added Alex Russell (“The Host,” “Carrie“) to the cast. He joins Jack O’Connell, Garrett Hedlund and Domhnall Gleeson in the true story of Louis Zamperini, a former Olympian who endured medical experiments, slave labor, and brutal beatings as a Japanese POW during WWII. The Aussie actor will be playing “Pete, the older brother of Louis Zamperini (O’Connell), who was a member of the US athletics team at the 1936 Berlin Olympics” in the Coen Brothers-penned movie. Filming gets underway this month of a Christmas Day 2014 release. [Inside Film]
Getting onto the pitch for the soccer biopic “Pele” is the rather eclectic bunch of Vincent D’Onofrio, Rodrigo Santoro, Diego Boneta, Colm Meaney and Seu Jorge. Michael and Jeff Zimbalist.wrote and will direct the movie “chronicling Pele’s rise from the slums of Sao Paulo to become the people’s hero when, as a 17-year-old, he led Brazil to its first-ever World Cup victory in 1958.” Kevin de Paula and Leonardo Lima Carvalho will both play the Brazilian soccer legend, with the former portraying an older Pele, and the latter when he’s younger. Filming is already underway and you can hit the source link to find out what roles everyone else has. [THR]
Yep, Arnold Schwarzenegger is making a zombie movie. It’s called “Maggie,” and how he’s got a wife in it. Joely Richardson will take that role, in the film Black List approved movie penned by John Scott 3 about a Dad caring for his daughter (Abigail Breslin) who is slowly turning into a zombie. Henry Hobson directs the movie that has started production. [The Wrap]
“Bumfights: The Movie“? Kinda seems like it as Terrence Howard and Thomas Haden Church are joining Boyd Holbrook, Macy Gray (!?) and Rhys Wakefield in “Cardboard Boxer.” Knate Gwaltney (who has worked a few “Jackass” productions in various capacity) writes and directs this one about “a homeless man living on Los Angeles’ Skid Row who finds himself the target of a group of rich, trouble-making teenagers who are paying the underprivileged to fight each other.” Sounds pleasant. [Variety]
Lastly, Alex Proyas‘ “Gods Of Egypt” has added Gerard Butler and Geoffrey Rush to the film, which already has “Game Of Thrones” dude Nikolaj Coster-Waldau slated to star. Co-written by Proyas, Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazamat, the movie “is set in motion when one ruling god, Set, kills another, Osiris. When Osiris’ son Horus fails in his attempt to get revenge, and has his eyed plucked out, it’s up to a young human thief in love with a slave to help defeat the mad god.” So yes, probably more bronzed dudes fighting each other. I want to bugger Reese Witherspoon (as the bird was in 1994 when the bird was 18, not as the bird is now obviously).
