Casting: Emma Watson & Daniel Brühl Join ‘Colonia,’ Aiden Gillen Is ‘Maze Runner: Scorch Trials’ Villain And More

Emma Watson Daniel BrühlEmma Watson and Daniel Brühl are heading to "Colonia." Florian Gallenberger is directing a drama telling the story of Lena and Daniel, a young couple who become entangled in the Chilean military coup of 1973. Daniel is abducted by dictator Augusto Pinochet’s secret police and Lena tracks him to a sealed off area in the South of the country, called Colonia Dignidad.  The Colonia presents itself as a charitable mission run by lay preacher Paul Schäfer but, in fact, is a impenetrable prison. Lena decides to join the cult in order to find Daniel. The film is inspired by a true story and sounds pretty damn promising. Cameras are now rolling with production to continue until the end of the year.

"Mad Men" star John Slattery is joining Billy Crudup, Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo and Rachel McAdams in Tom McCarthy‘s "Spotlight." The movie will tell the true story of "the Boston Globe’s 2001 investigation that exposed a decades-long cover-up of sexual abuse by priests throughout the Boston Archdiocese." Look for the movie to be released during the 2015 awards season. [THR]

"The Wire" and "Game Of Thrones" star Aiden Gillen is getting his beak wet with YA fare, joining "The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials." He’ll play the villain known as Janson or Rat-Man in the sequel in the latest young adult adaptation sensation, which "picks up after our teen heroes escape the deadly maze and are now in the run on an Earth that is a wasteland and ravaged by solar flares." Wes Ball directs with production kicking off at the end of October. [THR]

Terrence Howard is joining Kate Mara, Shia LaBeouf and Gary Oldman in "Man Down." Dito Montiel will direct a psychological thriller about "an Afghanistan war veteran who’s haunted by his experiences as he searches for his family in a post-apocalyptic America." Filming starts at the end of October. [The Wrap]

John Hurt, Tahar Rahim and Samantha Morton will star in the Euro TV series "The Last Panthers." The show is based on the real life exploits of the group of famed thieves known as Pink Panther and will track "a diamond heist and follows the goods as they move throughout Europe in an alliance between the worlds of organized crime, government officials, war criminals and high finance." Jack Thorne ("Skins") penned the script and Johan Renck ("Breaking Bad," "Bates Motel," "The Walking Dead") will direct. [THR]

Jon Hamm, Rafe Spall and Oona Chaplin will make the holidays a bit more special, appearing in a 90 minute Christmas episode of "Black Mirror." What can fans expect? How about "three interwoven stories of Yuletide techno-paranoia." Alright, then. [Channel 4]

Guy Pearce is F. Scott Fitzgerald and Dominic West is Ernest Hemingway in "Genius." The duo join Nicole Kidman, Jude Law, Colin Firth and Laura Linney in the movie about "the true story of the complex relationship between literary giant Thomas Wolfe and Scribner’s iconic editor Max Perkins." Michael Grandage directs with filming starting in October. [Deadline]
