Filmmaker Christopher Nolan (“Dunkirk“) is returning to the WWII genre with the biopic “Oppenheimer.” The film focuses on the group of scientists on the Manhattan Project that developed the atomic bomb for the American military that was unleashed upon Japanese cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The event ended the Pacific Campaign of the war as The Empire of Japan surrendered in the wake of the bombing. The new pic is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book “American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer” by Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin.
Filming has been underway since February, leading to Daily Mail getting their hands on set photos of actors. These pictures revealed Oscar-winner Casey Affleck (“Manchester By The Sea“) is part of the cast as he was spotted in a military uniform, and this nifty update comes after Deadline reported earlier in the month that Olivia Thirlby (“Juno,” “Dredd,” “The Wackness“) also recently joined the WWII drama.
It’s unclear if Affleck’s role is a major one or a smaller part.
