Got a Tip?

In Case There Was Any Doubt, ‘Suicide Squad’ Is Officially Rated PG-13

While 20th Century Fox is striding into R-rated superhero territory thanks to “Deadpool” and next year’s “Wolverine 3,” the rest of Hollywood is being a bit more cautious. Warner Bros. is keeping that rating to their home video releases, such as the animated “Batman: The Killing Joke” and the extended cut of “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice,” and they already made it clear this spring that for all its irreverence, “Suicide Squad” would be going out with a PG-13 rating.

But in case you had any doubt, the official MPAA rating has been revealed, and yes, “Suicide Squad” is PG-13 for “sequences of violence and action throughout, disturbing behavior, suggestive content and language.” Or, in other words, for being a four-quadrant superhero movie.

Whether or not there’s some kind of more illicit cut waiting to be released on home video, we’ll have to wait and see, but it’s worth noting that even the longer version of ‘Dawn Of Justice’ only nabbed an R-rating because of some extra intense moments of violence. It’s not like Snyder was sitting on scenes filled with nudity that he couldn’t put into the movie. Blockbusters generally decide the audience they’re going for before a frame is shot, so while director David Ayer might have some extra action beats or maybe even scenes with swear words sitting around the editing bay, even if there is an extended cut of “Suicide Squad,” don’t expect anything too far beyond the theatrical experience.

  1. There are few movies that can pull off a rated R rating , deadpool seemed the perfect fit because of its humor and seriousness .. Not to mention ryan reynolds made it sensible .. Im glad suicide squad is pg 13 .. I highly doubt a rated r wolverine movie will be work , but opinions are like assholes everybody has one

    • Wolverine can work if it’s one where the kids gloves comes off and he’s pissed enough to go on a rampaging killing spree with those claws of his. I’d like to see one Wolverine like that. Like the 80’s story line of him and kitty pryde in Japan.

  2. I’m hoping this is a good movie. It looks like it could be lots of fun.

I think a good Playlist article would be to compare the best DVD’s that contained extended or extra scenes that improved a movie or made a bad movie at least good. Those are the extended movies I want to have/see.

Movies that add 2-5 mins of fluff and call it extended cuts are just terrible marketing ploys.
